Published on: August 23, 2023

As part of the international research project TETERACHs, a team from the Institute of Archaeology at the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU), led by Dr. Edisa Lozić, conducted aerial laser scanning using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at two prehistoric settlements in the Notranjska region. Tilen Podobnik and Dr. Benjamin Štular also participated in the project.

The UAV was operated by the team from the Institute of Digital Cultural Heritage at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. The team was led by Prof. Nicola Lercari, with additional contributions from Dr. Dario Calderone and Dennis Busch.

Data was captured at the Gradišče above Knežak and at the Baba settlement in Slavina near Pivka. Both sites are subjects of long-term research, involving collaboration with the University of Oshkosh in Wisconsin (USA) and the National Museum of Slovenia. The research aims not only to gather new archaeological data about the mentioned sites but also to investigate the acquisition and use of digital archaeological data.
