Published on: September 8, 2026ZRC SAZU Inštitut za arheoThis summer, the ZRC SAZU Institute of Archaeology, in collaboration with the Centre for Preventive Archaeology at the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia, conducted archaeological geophysical research at the Roman municipium of Neviodunum, located in the area of present-day Drnovo near Krško. Tina Berden PhD and Jernej Rihter PhD, together with Gašper Rutar and Miha Mihelič from the Centre for Preventive Archaeology, investigated the centre and eastern outskirts of the former Roman settlement. The aim was to define and reconstruct the layout of central Neviodunum more precisely and to clarify the course of the main Roman road connecting Emona and Siscia, which crossed the investigated area.
The results will contribute to a more precise reconstruction of the urban layout of Neviodunum and to further research into the spatial organisation and functional structure of the settlement. The work was carried out within the ZRC SAZU Institute of Archaeology research programme Archaeological Research 2022–2027 (ARIS P6-0064).
