Dear colleagues,
On Monday, 5 October 2026, an international archaeological symposium entitled “Archaeology between the High Tauern and the Pohorje: New Discoveries on the Settlement of Carinthia and Styria in the Copper and Bronze Ages” will take place at Javornik 11 in Ravne na Koroškem, Slovenia.
At the symposium, researchers from Slovenia and Austria will present new discoveries and research findings concerning the Copper and Bronze Ages in Carinthia and Styria. The first session will address various aspects of settlement and settlements, ranging from the first public presentations of individual newly discovered sites to new insights into settlement dynamics, settlement patterns, and agricultural practices.

The second session will focus on new findings concerning funerary and ritual practices, as well as the phenomenon of metal object deposition, drawing on research into cemeteries and hoard finds.
The symposium is organised by the Carinthian Regional Museum, the ZRC SAZU Institute of Archaeology, the Carinthian Museum in Klagenfurt (Landesmuseum für Kärnten), and the Universalmuseum Joanneum.
The programme of lectures is attached.
