Področje preučevanja:

Rachel Opitz je podoktorska raziskovalka na Univerzi v Arkansasu, ZDA (Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies). Doktorski naziv je pridobila leta 2009 na Univerzi v Cambridgeu.

Pri svojem raziskovalnem delu se usmerja predvsem v lasersko skeniranje, photogrametrijo in hiperspektralno daljinsko zaznavanje v arheologiji ter arheologijo sredozemskih krajin in odnosu med ruralnimi in urbanimi krajinami.

Od leta 2003 sodeluje pri arheoloških raziskavah v Italiji in je trenutno vodja topografije obsežnih izkopavanj "Gabii Project (Kelsey Museum, University of Michigan)".

Rachel Opitz je gostujoča raziskovalka v obdobju od 6. junija do 5. decembra 2012.
